Durst Organic Growers teamed up with the Yolo Food Bank to help promote their new “Meet your Farmer” program held at the weekly Kids Farmers Markets held in Esparto, Winters and Woodland. We created a short presentation for the kids including some taste samples of fresh watermelon, visuals of cut melon, props to demonstrate etc. We also handed out recipes and stickers. Kids learned why plants are Green and A milk carton and Banana were shown to demonstrate that plants need calcium and potassium from the soil which are nutrients that are transferred to us too! The kids were all amazed that seeds are found in most fruits and vegetables... including BANANAS! We hope to participate in other programs such as this as the Yolo Food Bank continues to educate kids about where their food comes from!
