We were so excited to be a part of the Grand Opening for the new Ace Hardware Store that opened up on October 25th 2010! Durst Organic Growers is located here in this small farming town called Esparto which also serves as the first real town you see when you enter the Capay Valley. The new store is an invaluable resource for this area, providing for the merchandise needs of the local population, jobs and revenue for Yolo county, and just a fun place for the whole town to revolve around! A celebration was held on October 26th at the store with many of the local and state representatives in finance, planning committee, government and tribal organizations. Jim durst spoke about the local history of the town, recollecting on how things used to be during the "Early Agricultural Years" when Esparto was a thriving mini metropolis that included a garage, barber, grocery, gas station and many other working businesses. Over time most of these faded away or deteriorated to conditions that could not sustain local business as the people took their needs & shopping elsewhere. Thanks to the New Season Community Development Corporation and many others this new hardware store is one of the first steps to revitalizing the town of Esparto and bringing it back to the glory of what it should be, the gateway to Capay Valley and all the Fruits (& Vegetables) it contains!
