Yolo County Fair Opening Gala

It was Another fun Opening Night at the 2012 Yolo County Fair!  The Opening Gala at the fair is an event we attend each year along with many restaurants, wineries, olive oil vendors and other farms from Yolo County.  The event this year was expanded to include an outdoor area for music and socializing.  We were happy to be out in the fresh air with a fresh harvest of Fun from Durst Organic Growers!  Attending this Year was one of our VIP's (Very Important Produce)...  Durst Organic Seedless Watermelon.  The popularity of this favorite Durst Celebrity commanded an incognito approach to the event and we served it as an Aqua Fresca with Watermelon and Lime.  It was a VERY refreshing treat in the HOT Fair weather.  Fresh Cherry Tomatoes accompanied our table and some fresh Mixed Durst Organic Melon also made an appearance to guests who visited the booth.  Although sweet and full of fresh personality, the samples of Durst Melon and Tomatoes could not stay in place long because a Paparazzi of Tasters kept them moving along all night.  Luckily the Durst "stage crew" had plenty of back up for all to enjoy.

It has been a challenge each year to come up with a display to match the theme of the fair. The theme for 2012  was "Sheep Thrills and Muddy Wheels" but... How do you connect fresh produce with a SHEEP?
Our solution was to create a poster inspired by a famous artist Guiseppe Acrimboldo who created paintings of portraits with arranged fresh vegetables in the 14th century.  Our Portrait of a "sheep" in the same style included Tomatoes, Melons, Squash, and Peppers all grown here at Durst Organic Growers.  As for muddy wheels... well everyone knows where the veggies come from right?
