This year the Asparagus Season began on March 20th bringing in a record for the longest harvest period ever for this crop in Durst History! The cool weather proved very beneficial for our spears producing yields up to 25% more than the previous year. These tender & tasty bundles wrapped up their season on June 17th with the end of Asparagus Harvest and a promise to return next season to hopefully break another record for 2012.
As for the year after that these fields will have to contend with 40 new acres of Asparagus that have been planted here at Durst Organic. 20 Acres of this new lot were transplanted in the fall with the additional 20 completed this spring. Both of these are expected to come into production in 2013 and will eventually replace some of our 15 year old fields.
